Its burner is fitted on uppermost portion. Once gas starts burning it produces live flame that shifts against perforated metal screen at topmost portion of burner and heat produced doesn’t shift anywhere, nether does it vanish in environment due to downward shifting and going horizontal which ultimately warm the place just to provide warmth to people sitting nearby.

Remember below mentioned aspects before choosing a gas patio heater you want to buy:
1.    Estimate your heat requirement and make tentative planning about number of people to sit around it. You must assess particular area which you want heated. Above mentioned aspects are determinative in selecting required BTU of heater for your use.
2.    Check the gas outlet and if you have one everything becomes easy as you merely connect it with heater which automatically refill and you don’t bother. But if you don’t have this arrangement then alternate refilling arrangement becomes necessary.  
3.    Whether your plan is to make it portable or keeping it adjusted at particular place.
4.    Ensure that wheels are properly mounted under its base if you use it as portable.
5.    Check that heater is equipped with automatic shutoff feature that easily puts it off if titled.

The last one is an essential feature as you understand, flickering lights can be nostalgic, but can also be dangerous. In absence of such features, children playing hide and seek or the dog chasing the cat can cause a major fire. Even with the anti-tilt shut off mechanism in place, you should not put it too near any inflammable object like your patio umbrella, as long as the children and the pets are around. It is the canopy of the umbrella, which can easily catch fire.

But stainless steel material remains most sought after choice due to quality of making and heater remaining corrosion resistant as well as durable. There are few branded items which can be used for effusing heat for 14 hours without even stopping for once.

Like the patio heaters, patio umbrella frames also are made with different kind of materials and here too stainless steel and aluminum is most popular, though teak wood stand are said to be most durable. When you buy an umbrella, keep in mind overall décor of your patio. If your patio furniture is contemporary and is made with stainless steel or aluminum, such style should reflect in the patio umbrellas as well. The umbrella cloth should also match well with the patio cushions and other color scheme.

You can decorate your patio as an extension of the adjacent room or can make a complete break. It is up to you.
