Generator Adapter Cord Set

Every year at Christmas there are households across the nation that display lights as decorations. Most if not all displays will make use of extension cords. It is very important to follow a couple safety guidelines when using them. One bad extension cord can not only cause a lot of damage but may also put you and your family at risk.

The most important thing you can do is to first visually inspect them. They are not made to last forever so cracked, frayed, or any other kind of visible damage should be grounds for replacing them. You will also want to map out how you want everything set up ahead of time. You should not place extension cords under furniture or carpet. That would pose a fire hazard.

Another big mistake people make is using cords outside that are not for outdoor use. When you are using them outside, make sure they are clear of snow and standing water.

When you are buying new ones, purchase them from authorized retailers and make sure they have been recognized by UL, a nationally recognized testing laboratory. Make sure you buy the right size too. You want to give yourself a little wiggle room but you don't need an extra 25 feet for instance. You should also check the power ratings on them to make sure they will be able to sustain the lights that you are using.
