A good generator can make your home virtually black-out proof. Now that  you have an idea of the size of the generator you need, you now need to decide what type of fuel you're going to use. Many standby generators found today run on gas, but there are also advantages to choosing diesel or propane-fuled models as well. Propane is considered the more expensive option but it's also the most stable. Unlike traditional gas or diesel, propane has a shelf life of almost two years. There was a time when diesel was only for the larger generator, but that is beginning to change. Smaller systems that run on diesel are starting to appear and they typically cost the same as their gas counterparts.
