A great alternative to roast turkey for Thanksgiving, is deep-fried turkey. To create this delicious feast, one would need a turkey fryer. This meal has been a favorite of long-standing in the Southern parts of the United States of America. Other states are migrating to this way of cooking this popular food as it takes much quicker to cook than the conventional methods such as roasting.
In order to fry one of these birds, one will need a thermometer, a lifter, a poultry holder or a basket, a large stock and a pot. A propane tank will need to be bought as well. These do not come with the kit. They are designed to be low standing to prevent them from tipping over.
The less expensive options have a stockpot made from aluminum. The more expensive ones have a pot made from stainless steel. Some of the models have a valve that allows the oil to be drained. The poultry holder has a stainless steel or aluminum disk. This has a metal rod, which is formed into a loop, and the ends are fixed to the middle of the disk.
The deep fry turkey lifter lowers the bird while the loop is placed through the bird's cavity. The thermometer monitors the temperature. Other food can also be cooked with this cooking apparatus. This would include seafood and other kinds of poultry.
When frying is not taking place or when other foods are being prepared, one would use the stockpot lid. It is recommended that one use an apron and gloves when working with the turkey fryer. This will avoid mess and prevent any accidents with hot oil.
Some manufacturers design the turkey fryer with an extra temperature control valve. This is used to adjust the flame so that there is constant temperature throughout the cooking process. Now days there are electric versions that allow for the cooking to take place indoors. These do not heat up as fast as their outdoor counterparts.
